A healthy and vibrant small and local business community is a very important  part of Palo Alto’s economy, and vital to the health of the entire community. Local retail businesses provide residents with the convenience of shopping locally, while reducing green house gas emissions, and allowing for community building when neighbors meet up at these businesses. Together with other small businesses, they generate sales tax revenues that are good economics for the City budget. Doria is a strong supporter of policies that will support and enhance local small, and especially locally-serving retail, businesses.

“Small and local businesses are the heart of Palo Alto’s economy and one of the things which makes our city so desirable. These businesses were hard hit by Covid and the pandemic’s repercussions. I will collaborate with our businesses to make changes that will help them thrive including working with Palo Alto’s new Economic  Development Team to bring viability, visibility and variety to the forefront.”
